Local charities and community groups. Please note that these organisations are not necessarily affiliated to, or endorsed by, Rotary, but are here as a public service. If your charity or community group doesn’t show here, and if you are active in the Dengie, please Contact Us for inclusion.

Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, unlike NHS emergency services, is a charity. The free life-saving service is provided 24/7 by helicopters and by rapid response vehicles.
Each critical care team consists of a pilot and co-pilot, a pre-hospital care doctor and a critical care paramedic.
They can be rushed to the scene with life-saving support equipment to deliver advanced clinical care, usually only available in the hospital emergency department. Once stabilised, the patient will be conveyed to the most appropriate hospital by air or land.
We are a charity founded upon and driven by our values of selflessness, courage, dependability and trustworthiness, with volunteers at our heart. Values shared by generations of supporters like you who have powered our lifesaving work through your kindness and generosity for over 200 years.
The vast majority of RNLI people are volunteers – ordinary people doing extraordinary things – supported by expert staff, all working together to help communities at home and abroad save lives.

Little Havens provides specialist care and support for babies, children and young people living with complex or incurable conditions, from Essex and the surrounding boroughs.
We offer care and support for each child or young person, and their whole family, in their homes and at our hospice in Rayleigh, Essex.
The Sick Children’s Trust is the charity that provides a welcoming ‘Homes from Home’ where families with a sick child in hospital can stay. But we’re more than bricks and mortar, our friendly, caring staff are there to support families when they really need it.
Without us families would have to travel long distances, sleep in uncomfortable hospital chairs or pay for expensive hotels just to be by their sick child’s hospital bedside. Not only do we alleviate financial worries but we also help the mental wellbeing of the families we support.
We have ten ‘Homes from Home’ around England, supporting families from around the UK. They are in London, Cambridge, Leeds, Sheffield and Newcastle.

Growing old often brings many challenges, but Knightswood believe that life is still there to be enjoyed and lived as independently as possible.
Knightswood is a registered charity that has been providing quality day care services for over twenty years. During this time we have built up a wide range of community care services within the Dengie Hundred area and Maldon District.
The Cirdan Trust was founded in 1983 to serve young people in the southeast of England and the Faramir Trust in 1991 to do the same for those of the northeast. In 2002, the two trusts were conjoined under the title The Cirdan Sailing Trust.
Every voyage is different as we work closely with each group to deliver what every individual needs. We don’t do an ‘off the shelf’ package. Everything is flexible from where you join, how long the voyage is and what you get up to. We hope this video gives an insight into just what is possible.

Phoenix Heroes CIC is a Community Interest Company based in Colchester, UK, that supports veterans by providing them with access to outdoor activities. The organisation was founded in 2018 by Gary Stockton, a veteran who served 22 years in the British Army, and it has since grown to become a respected provider of support to veterans in the UK. Phoenix Heroes CIC is a not-for-profit organisation that provides support to veterans through outdoor activities such as fishing, football and allotment gardening. The organisation is committed to helping veterans overcome the challenges they face when transitioning from military to civilian life, and it achieves this by providing opportunities for veterans to come together and build a sense of community and belonging. We also provide support to veterans who are struggling with mental health difficulties and finding the transition on leaving the Armed Forces a challenge. Our activities are designed to promote physical and mental well-being, helping veterans to reconnect with nature and find a sense of purpose and fulfilment.
