Talented Burnham teen wins Rotary Young Writer Competition

The Rotary Club of Burnham-On-Crouch and Dengie Hundred are proud to announce that Alisha is the 2024 Senior Winner of the National Rotary Young Writer Competition.

With hundreds of entries from all over Great Britain and Northern Ireland, this is a remarkable and well-earned achievement by such a talented young writer.

“We’re very proud to have sponsored Alisha’s journey at the Rotary Young Writer Competition 2023/24. The poem is the work of an incredibly talented young person well deserving of winning the competition. We can’t wait to see what comes next!” Dr Chris Nutt, Burnham Rotary Club

The Rotary Young Writer Competition

The Rotary Young Writer competition encourages creativity and imagination in writing. The Theme for this year’s competition, ‘Rebuilding’, provided the widest opportunity to share each entrant’s creative talents by showing what it meant to them, using prose or poetry.

The criteria for judging entries were imagination, engaging interest and power of argument.

Burnham Rotary Club worked closely with Ormiston Rivers Academy to sponsor entries. The Club then arranged for the Pauline Hallanzy Book Club book club to assess the 26 entries across two age groups.

Alisha won the Burnham competition, then the District competition and, finally, achieved the distinction of becoming the National Senior Winner. Alisha won Certificates at each level and vouchers totalling £125.

Alisha is shown on the right with the National Trophy.
