A Force for Good
The Burnham-On-Crouch and Dengie Hundred Rotary Club (the Club) works to help people in need throughout the Dengie and further afield. This work is both direct and practical, and more is achieved indirectly by fund-raising for other local charities. Members combine their collective experience to make this happen. They also find something in it for themselves by doing this and by mixing socially with fellow Rotarians with a similar sense of purpose.
The Club’s reputation has been built on championing good causes for the Dengie for over 45 years.
Charity
Formally speaking, the Club is a Trust registered with the Charities Commission (Charity Number 278487) since September 1979.
The Club is recognised by HMRC for gift aid for its commitment to safeguarding vulnerable beneficiaries.

Rotary International
Globally, Rotary is one of the world’s largest and most successful membership and humanitarian service organisations, with 1.4 million members in over 200 countries.
The ‘Object of Rotary’ worldwide is a formal statement that says its purpose is to ‘encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
- The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
- High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
- The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
- The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the idea of service.’
In other words, Rotary provides us with the opportunity to:
- Use friendship among ourselves so all the better to do good for the Dengie and beyond;
- Regard each other and our work experience of equal value to our good work;
- See serving others as integral to our business and personal life;
- Use the service model to spread mutual understanding and goodwill generally.
